I recently received an e-mail from a close friend who shared with me an incredible vision she had experienced, while in the prayer room of her church. I have known her and her husband for several years and have utmost regard for her prophetic gift. As soon as I read it, I knew this was not an overactive imagination. It was a messenger of God bringing her a message to launch her and those with her into the ministry God had for them to do.  

 

In the vision, she saw an angel holding a silver trumpet in his hand. She walked up to him and asked why he was here and if he was going to blow the trumpet. He said “I have messages to give and assignments to give”. She then asked if everyone would hear the trumpet. He said, “No, not everyone, only those who are listening.” And then the vision ended.

 

She had no sooner resumed her prayer, when she heard the trumpet blast and the angel reappeared. He then blew his trumpet 12 times in 4 sets of 3 blasts and shouted,

 

“Awake, awake,”

And then after a brief pause,

”To arms, to arms.”

 

He approached and gave her instructions regarding the coming battle and the spiritual weapons he had brought to equip her and those willing to join the battle. Time does not allow me to share here all that he revealed to her regarding the coming battle, for he was with her for about 5 hours through the night.

 

Angels are such a mystery. Who was he? What was his name? He may very well have been the angel who appeared to Joshua with his drawn sword as the “Captain of the Host of the Lord” (Joshua 5:14), or the angel God sent to destroy 185,000 Assyrian soldiers who were surrounding Jerusalem and King Hezekiah. (2 Kings 19:35)

 

His identity remains a mystery for now, but the mission he announced is clear and just as real as the one announced to Joshua or Isaiah. He is sounding the war cry. He is calling the Church to battle and equipping those who will answer the call with the weapons needed to fight.

 

I had a similar vision the evening of December 31, 1999. It occurred during a New Year’s Eve church service. I saw a runner, resembling a frontiersman dressed in buckskin breeches and shirt, running toward me and our church. He carried what looked like a scroll in a courier’s pouch tucked beneath his arm in the same way a quarterback carries a football. Hordes of demons were mobbing him. Some were hanging on to his legs trying to trip him and knock him off his feet while others were trying to rip the pouch from beneath his arm. They were coming at him from every direction. He was kicking free of those hanging on his legs and straight arming those coming at him from in front, while he carefully guarded the scroll in the pouch. I watched as he worked his way toward us and suddenly the vision ended. I shared it with the congregation that night and then mulled it over for the next couple of weeks, wondering what it meant.

 

My next encounter took place on February 11, 2000 while praying deliverance over a lady coming out of the occult. After several hours of fighting a particularly strong demon, it suddenly started kicking at an unseen being while pleading with me to get the angel away from him and he would leave willingly. I refused and the scuffle resumed until he whimpered like a baby and left. An angel had come to help me defeat that demon.

 

Since that time there has been a continuous revelation of angels at work in our midst that has come through numerous sources. God is opening the spiritual eyes of many people including myself to see angels warring on our behalf.

 

There are two young ladies in our Church that have an incredible spiritual gift of seeing angels at work in the congregation assisting and ministering to individuals in numerous ways. If this seems unbelievable to you, perhaps you should read the Apostle Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians (Eph.1:18) where he asks God to open the eyes of their spirit. This is exactly what has happened to these two young ladies.   

 

Our experiences are similar to many others who have shared their accounts of visitation by angels. We believe this is a sign of the last days and a herald of a move of God in the earth today.  

 

The Bible records approximately 4000 years of the Old Testament history of man and there were hundreds of years without a single record of an angelic visitation. In fact the last period, between the Old Testament book of Malachi, and the New Testament book of Matthew, is called the 400 silent years.  Yet during the 40 years surrounding the first coming of Christ there was a sudden flurry of angels appearing to many. I have listed below no less than 15 appearances of angels in that forty year period to the following individuals;

 

1.      Zachariah (Lk.1:11)

2.      Mary (Lk. 1:26

3.      Joseph (Matt.1:20)

4.      The Shepherds (Lk.2:8)

5.      Joseph (Matt.2:13)

6.      Joseph (Matt.2:19)

7.      Jesus in the wilderness (Matt. 4:11)

8.      Jesus in Gethsemane (Lk. 22:43)

9.      Jesus at His arrest (twelve Legions) (Matt. 26:53)

10.   Guards at the tomb (Matt. 28:4)

11.   Woman at the tomb (Matt. 28:5)

12.   Phillip and the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26)

13.   Cornelius the Centurion (Acts 10:3)

14.   Peter in prison (Acts 12:7)

15.   Paul at sea (Acts 27:23)
 

In the last two thousand years, since the canon of Scripture was closed, there are very few records of angels appearing and yet in the last thirty years it has become quite common.

 

Just as there was a sudden burst of angelic appearances during the first coming of Christ so it will also be at His second coming. We are living in the days immediately preceding the second coming of Christ.

 

A good question to ask in light of this revelation is; Why did the angels need to reveal themselves to particular individuals? The answer is obvious. The plan of the ages was unfolding at lightning speed. It was imperative that those individuals follow their instructions implicitly. There could be no mistake or misunderstanding. Destiny was riding on those individuals following their instructions to the smallest detail.

 

We who are players in the final scenes of history must take serious what is spoken through the mouths of these messengers of God, just as those players of two thousand years ago did. When I saw the angel, in the vision on New Years Eve of 1999, pushing through the demonic hordes to get the message to the Church, I knew God was speaking to me. As I pondered the vision, I came to realize God was telling me that demons fight and sometimes impede or even prevent Christians from hearing His message.

 

That vision has kept Peggy and me in this deliverance ministry for 14 years. We have both been pretty beaten up at times through assignments coming against us. But we have never questioned the fact that God has called us to this ministry. We have committed ourselves to staying at our post until He returns. Had it not been for the vision of the angel, we might have come to doubt our calling and abandoned our post.

 

Perhaps some of you have already received an angelic visitation in a dream or waking experience. Revisit it and learn what God was saying to you and do it.

 

 The experience for others of you may be just around the corner, tomorrow or next month. Don’t pass it off as a coincidence or weird experience. God is not suffering from boredom and thinking up ways to stay busy. If He sends an angel to speak to you whether through a personal experience or through someone else, it is because there is something very specific He wants you to do.

 

You are a player in the closing act of history. The last days are flying by at warp speed, so don’t put yourself on pause and get left behind. Pay attention and take heed to the mission He has for you and follow His instructions implicitly. Don’t be like those who heard God’s voice when Christ made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem and said it had just thundered. (John 12:29)
